There is a popular proverb in the Haitian culture that says, “Beyond the mountains, there are mountains.”
The meaning of the proverb deals with the many issues that have plagued the Haitian people since they became a free nation after the first successful slave revolt in history.
It means beyond the mountains you can see, there are more mountains behind them.
Beyond the issues you can see, there are more issues behind them.
Beyond the oppression and suffering you can see, there is more behind them.
While the proverb is a sufficient definition of the mountains of issues that the Haitian people face on a daily basis, the tragedy lies in the deeper, unseen root cause of the issues.
The proverb needs to be changed in order to better understand the problem.
Beyond the mountains there is one mountain.
Voodoo is the root cause of every medical, economic, social, and cultural problem that is in Haiti.
I’ve heard too many stories of tragedies that lead back to voodoo.
I’ve heard too many incorrect documentaries describe voodoo as a religion that is simply misunderstood.
Tolerance of a religion based upon fear and oppression is not the answer.
Jesus tells us that if we have faith even as big as a mustard seed, we can tell a mountain to go and jump into the sea.
If that is true, we should be able to confidently conquer mountains that represent voodoo.
That is why I’ve decided to make a documentary film on the destruction that voodoo causes.
Not only do I want to educate people on the realities of voodoo, but I want to summit the voodoo mountain and claim the peak in the name of Jesus so that Haiti can be healed.
Please watch the first trailer for my film “Beyond the Mountains” and pray that this can be a way to bring more Haitians to Jesus and rescue them from the bondage of voodoo.
